About the Role:

This position is not a traditional single site role. It will include office work and travel to and from sites as needed.

The superintendent's job is to run the day-to-day operations on multiple construction sites and control the short-term schedule for those sites.

The position is well suited to someone with restoration and/or maintenance experience.

This individual will work closely with the Project Manager and fulfill an integral role on the project. On smaller projects, this individual will also perform duties normally associated with a Project Manager.


Responsibilities:

The Site Superintendent provides leadership and is responsible for, although not limited to;

  • Supervising all trade workers
  • Ensuring the safety of own forces and subcontractors
  • Following WorksafeBC Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Productivity of crew members
As a key participant in the relationship with the company, other contractors, and the client, the Site Superintendent has the following specific areas of responsibility:

1. Safety


The Site Superintendent must provide leadership that results in a safe work culture, is responsible and accountable for the safety of the crew under his/her direction, and must understand and accept the importance and legal liability of the role.


This includes:

  • Knowing and understanding Worksafe BC requirements
  • Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with WorksafeBC, and company safety policies and procedures
  • Facilitate mandatory safety tool box meetings
  • Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments
  • Participating in safety/incident investigations
  • Liaison with staff of an operating facility and conducting weekly meetings to ensure resident safety.

2. Leadership and Supervision

This includes:

  • Communicating the job to and with own forces and subcontractors
  • Assigning own forces tasks
  • Recognizing, addressing and resolving issues/problems among/between subcontractor
  • Maintaining work standards and outlining behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity
  • Ensuring own forces and subcontractor compliance with project policies and procedures
  • Ensuring own forces and subcontractor compliance with company policies and procedures

3. Planning and Scheduling


The Site Superintendent is accountable for following project plans and schedules and ensuring that own forces and subcontractors under his/her direction perform daily and weekly activities to meet production goals.


This includes:

  • Translating general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for the site
  • Working with own forces and subcontractors to overcome work challenges
  • Periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production

4. Employee Relations


The Site Superintendent must champion an inclusive employee relations culture, is accountable for the adherence to policies and procedures by own forces and subcontractors to ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment.


This includes:

  • Recognizing, addressing and resolving issues/problems among/between subcontractor

  • Promoting, supporting and facilitating teamwork and harmony between all workers by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all workers

5. Quality Control
The Site Superintendent is accountable for ensuring that the completed work meets quality standards.


This includes:

  • Onsite assessment prior to commencing work to ensure that the job is ready, and addressing any concerns
  • Overseeing the execution of the work, including quality and production, ensuring that the
  • Subcontractors work to job specifications and follows the plans
  • Inspecting and measuring completed work

6. Administration
The Site Superintendent is accountable for the preparation of reports as required by the employer.


This includes:

  • Maintaining daily log & site reports
  • Verifying deliveries
  • Reporting on work progress
  • Completing safety reports as required
  • Daily time keeping & reporting
  • Worker violation reports

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Has 2 to 3 years' experience in building trades (tradesperson, apprentice or assistant)
  • Has a strong understanding of construction methodology
  • Has a valid and clean BC driver's license

Knows and Understands:


  • Company and project safety programs
  • Occupational Health and Safety and environmental issues
  • WorksafeBC and insurance provisions
  • Employment standards and company policies
  • How to read plans

Has the ability to:


  • Lead own forces and subcontractors
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing, with good comprehension
  • Manage differences and diversity at the work site
  • Organize and delegate work
  • Handle the administrative duties of position, including completion of required documents

Shows that they:
