The Sustainability Manager is a newly created role that will support the management and delivery of the company's social and environmental sustainability efforts.

This position requires someone who is deeply passionate about sustainability and will not hesitate to engage fellow team members to push limits and achieve even greater good than ever before.


The Sustainability Manager will be responsible for tracking and reporting on energy use and carbon emissions, and for developing and leading initiatives to reduce water consumption, lower emissions, and improve waste management practices.

The role will also be responsible for coordinating social impact efforts, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development, both within the business and in communities where we operate.


Key to success in this role is the ability to develop and nurture relationships, engage internal and external stakeholders, and distill complex information into easy-to-understand messages.

This position reports to the VP, Communications, Sustainability, and Stakeholder Relations and will work closely with leaders from the operations teams and across the business.


Key Areas of Accountability

Leadership and team engagement

  • Work closely with team members from across the business to implement, manage, and report on the sustainability strategy. Develop prioritized activity roadmap to successfully deliver on the company's ambitions and targets.
  • Work across the businesses to inform and educate internal stakeholders, so they understand their role and responsibility in achieving sustainability targets. Work across different functional areas to set, track, and achieve sustainability targets.
  • Steward an internal council to engage team members and coordinate sustainabilityrelated activities across the business and geographies.
  • Track, measure, and report on all aspects of sustainability across the business. Assist in developing external communications regarding the company sustainability strategy and progress.

Social development and impact

  • Manage and implement the multiyear strategy, including tracking and reporting on key metrics, to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals through internal and external activities and position tourism experiences as a force for good.
  • Partner with leadership and the People and Culture team to support the engagement and wellbeing of team members, nurture a healthy, diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment, and curate meaningful professional development and learning programs.
  • Manage corporate donations and sponsorship program in alignment with social sustainability strategy and priorities.

Environmental sustainability

  • Manage and implement the multiyear strategy to reduce carbon emissions, reduce water consumption, and improve waste management practices.
  • Conduct regular reporting on carbon emissions and report on efforts and improvements.
  • Seek out and implement innovative and effective ways to achieve reduction targets.

Stakeholder relations

  • Develop and collaborate on external community relations activities that align with the strategy and engage external stakeholders to enhance the social impact.
  • Work with the procurement and contracting teams to implement a purposeful purchasing program and report progress to ensure supply chain partners are aligned with business expectations.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Knowledge

  • Postsecondary education in sustainability, business or related field

Experience

  • Minimum five years' experience in sustainability, business or other relevant sectors
  • Experience in managing and communicating corporate sustainability principles
  • Experience working with senior executives, engaging team members, and managing external agencies
  • Experience with Indigenous relations and reconciliation is considered an asset

Skills

  • Ability to distill complex concepts and data into easytounderstand messages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience engaging and influencing team members
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects and deadlines accordingly
  • Focused work ethic with the ability to work independently and manage own time
  • Enjoys problem solving, seeking innovative solutions, and thinking strategically
  • Experience in carbon accounting is considered an asset
  • Experience in the travel industry and operating regions is considered an asset

Work Environment
Hybrid based in Vancouver is preferred.
