About us
The Mines and Minerals Division (MMD) supports responsible land use management and mineral resource development by administering the Mining Act and providing geoscience information to the public and clients.
The Information and Lands Branch (ILB) provides lands management, geomatics, data and information management services to internal and external clients.
The Opportunity
The Information and Lands Branch requires a highly skilled and innovative database administrator to develop, implement and maintain various databases and datastores and to participate in the implementation of new systems and the production of new digital products for internal use and public distribution.
Provide advice on data management standards, formats, procedures and techniques to internal and external clients, government agencies, digital data contractors and systems development information technology project teams.
Note:
This position is located at 933 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury; however, flexible work arrangements including telework (remote work) and flexible hours may be considered.

What can I expect to do in this role?:
In this role, you will:
- develop, implement and maintain various databases and datastores
- participate in the implementation of new systems and new system components
- participate in the production of new digital products for public distribution
- design, implement, test, and train staff on various database systems
- provide advice on data management standards, formats, procedures and techniques
How do I qualify?:
Technical Knowledge:
You have:
- demonstrated knowledge of data modeling and database structure, design and development techniques, programming languages and data storage and retrieval
- knowledge of systems development methods and practices
- knowledge of standards and policies governing data management
- knowledge and use of technical tools such as Sharepoint and Power BI for data analysis
Technology and Geoscience Skills:
You have:
- ability to stay current on new and upcoming technologies
- understanding of Ontario's mineral exploration and mining industry
Problem-Solving and Organizational Skills:
You have:
- analytical and problem solving skills to assess client's information and system needs
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
You have:
- strong interpersonal and communication skills to prepare and explain technical reports
