Educational Assistant

100%, Term (10 month work year)

$23.45 to $24.39 per hour

Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team and is responsible for the provision of support to students with exceptional needs within the school.

The position involves dealing with confidential information and requires ongoing flexibility and variability.

Responsibilities are varied, in collaboration with teaching and other professional staff, and include:

supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with developmental disabilities; participation in pool programs, academic support, implementing special programs, support to deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises and stretches.

Educational Assistants may be required to modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities, and speech/language issues. Assignments may also include outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties. Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil are assets.

DSW/CYW
Assistive Technology: Google Read & Write
First Aid/CPR
Behaviour Modification
Must be proficient in BMS
Must be prepared and keen to work with behaviours ranging from Kinder-Gr. 8; such behaviours may include, kicking, hitting, and being sworn at
Must be comfortable with toileting
Must have a working knowledge of collaborative problem solving
Rich experience in creating individual behaviour plans is a definite asset
Knowledge of assistive technology (Google Read and Write)
Outdoor and indoor duties are part of the position
Team player

If a term assignment is less than the school year: $23.45 per hour + 4% vacation pay and eligibility for benefits
