In accordance with Article 9.05, where the previous incumbent returns to this position within the thirty (30) day trial period this position shall be deemed not vacant and the posting will be cancelled.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:


Under the general direction of the professional practice leader, and the supervision of the Occupational Therapist (OT), the Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) aids in the provision of occupational therapy interventions deemed appropriate by the Occupational Therapist for inpatients of Kingston General Hospital.

The OTA participates as a team member, completing activities that are directed towards a patient and family-centered environment and that contribute to quality, operational efficiency, professional and program development.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre strategy.

As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.


PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Utilizes the patient record to collect information and/or document provision of occupational therapy treatment using the DARP format.
  • Inspects, maintains, stores and tracks the Occupational Therapy Department's supply of assistive devices and mobility aids. Facilitates maintenance and purchase requests as necessary.
  • Performs clerical duties such as recording occupational therapy referrals, photocopying, and creating informational material related to occupational therapy equipment and treatment.
  • Participating in planning, implementing and evaluating occupational therapy service delivery.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Successful completion of a recognized OTA diploma program or Physiotherapist Assistant and OTA (dual trained) diploma program.
  • As a minimum, 6 week placement in acute care and/or inpatient rehabilitation setting is required.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong observational skills
  • Ability to problemsolve
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Initiative, creativity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to accept and carry out directions from more than one Occupational Therapist.
  • General knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Ability to transfer and mobilize patients requiring moderate to maximal assistance.
  • Ability to use basic tools for maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and Vulnerable sector search is required.
