The Market Housing Policy Branch is looking to recruit four Policy Advisors who enjoy problem-solving and excel in stakeholder liaison, strategic policy development, and coordination.

About the Branch
The Market Housing Policy Branch leads policy development and initiatives that support rental and ownership housing.

The branch is responsible for the regulatory framework for the rental housing sector that protects tenants and encourages proper maintenance and investment.

It leads the government's work on market housing issues, including supply and affordability, and leverages surplus government properties to create more housing.

What can I expect to do in this role?: Working as part of the Market Housing Policy Branch team, you will:

  • Lead and/or participate in developing policy, programs and legislation/regulation
  • Lead, plan, and coordinate specialized policy research and studies
  • Liaise with ministry and external stakeholders to consult, evaluate and respond to issues
  • Serve as key policy contact and articulate Ministry policy positions
  • Provide advice and input to support government communications and decisionmaking

How do I qualify?:


Policy Development Skills:


  • You have knowledge of policy and program principles and techniques and experience developing policies, legislation and regulations
  • You have the ability to analyze and provide input regarding policy and program development and implementation
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the government decisionmaking process and accountability frameworks

Technical Knowledge Skills:


  • You have knowledge of key government commitments and key stakeholder positions related to emerging housing issues

Communication, Consultation and Presentation Skills:


  • You can prepare complex policy and program proposals, briefing notes, correspondence and reports, and business cases
  • You have advisory and negotiation skills to provide advice to management, build consensus and present/convey complex issues to Senior Management and stakeholders
  • You have knowledge of consultation and communications principles, methods, strategies and issues to lead/participate in consultations

Research, Analytical and Project Management Skills:

  • You have knowledge and experience using research methods and techniques such as qualitative/ quantitative analysis and environmental scans
  • You can evaluate and monitor the financial and economic analysis and assessment of a broad range of issues
  • You can assess the effectiveness of policies/programs against Ministry initiatives and goals
  • You can design, develop, and lead projects from initial concept through completion within specific timelines, address conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • You demonstrate sound judgment, sensitivity, and a high degree of political acuity
