LOCATION:
Kamloops, BC


STATUS:
Temporary Full-time


TERM: 3 months or until the return of the incumbent

COMPENSATION:
$ $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)

HOURS of WORK: 35 hours per week

SCHEDULE:
Monday to Friday, Day time hours with occasional evening and weekend work

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Home Support Worker supports individuals with diverse abilities in their homes with personal care, hygiene, and household duties


The main responsibilities include:

  • Monitors the overall wellbeing of the individual and reports any changes
  • Provides personal care including feeding, grooming, personal hygiene, etc.
  • Administers medication following agency procedures
  • Manages household duties such as laundry, shopping, housekeeping, etc.
  • Provides life skills support and development
  • Fosters healthy eating habits through planning and preparing meals.
  • Transports individuals to appointments and other places
  • Implements the agency's health and safety standards while working with the individuals
  • Ensures that the individuals' behavioral plans are followed
  • Collaborates with other professionals, coworkers, and supervisors

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:


  • Home Support or Resident Care Aid Certificate
  • One year of related experience working with persons with cognitive, physical, and other diverse abilities with varying and complex needs
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Handle crisis situations effectively using appropriate interventions

  • Problemsolve effectively and make ethical decisions
  • Document and report information in written format
  • Manage conflicts effectively and maintain positive working relationships with all parties involved
  • Provide personcentered services in a professional and creative way
  • Advocate for people with diverse abilities within the community
  • Show utmost care for the confidentiality and privacy of information

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Physical requirements of the job include supporting individuals in wheelchairs, or walkers, lifting, transferring, using lifts appropriately, pushing, pulling, bending, and assisting clients safely in and out of vehicles, etc. (Necessary onthejob training is provided to ensure the safety of the participant and worker.)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and safe driving record (abstract)
  • Class 7N DL is accepted with the ability to obtain a Class 5 DL within the probationary period.
  • Own reliable vehicle insured with Business Use/ $5 Million liability.
  • Complete set of Covid19 vaccinations (two doses minimum)
  • Consent to Criminal Record Check. (Reimbursement with a receipt upon hire)
  • This position requires Union membership.
  • Flexible availability to work occasional evenings or weekends
