  • Merritt is looking to fill a permanent full-time position of Community Support Worker in our Community Inclusion Program in Merritt, BC.


The Community Support Worker role provides individual one on one support to clients with developmental disabilities in areas including community inclusion, accessesing community resources, emotional support and life skills development.


Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing support in daily life skills including physical, vocational, recreational, social, and emotional development.
  • Assisting clients to integrate in the community and to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.
  • Assisting clients with activities, shopping, errands, household cleanliness and food preparation.
  • Performing personal/hygiene care depending on client needs.
  • Transporting participants.

REQUIRED EDUCATION,TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Education Assistant and Community Support Certificate and recent related experience supporting and assisting persons with physical and developmental disabilities. Or a combination of education, training and experience.

Valid Class 5 driver's license, safe driving record (abstract)

  • Own transportation with Business Use and 5 million liability insurance may be required.

Current CPR-C certification.

  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention (MANDT), Suicide Awareness (safeTALK), Safe Food Handling and Medication Management training.

COVID vaccination is required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interact effectively and support individuals with physical and developmental disabilities
  • Strong experience providing life skills support and supporting individuals in their personal development towards individual goals
  • Strong ability to recognize, analyze and deal effectively and proactively with aggressive behaviours
  • Strong ability to handle crisis situations effectively
  • Ability to encourage participation in appropriate and healthy community inclusion activities
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a strong member of a team
  • Good communication, documentation, interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals, coworkers and supervisors
  • Strong ability to set professional boundaries
  • Strong ability to problem solve issues and situations as they arise

OTHER:

This position is
35 hrs per week.
Pay starts at $21.63 per hour** as per collective agreement.


Successful applicants must provide satisfactory supervisory references and criminal record checks (Both RCMP and Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General).


This position qualifies for employer paid group benefits (Dental, Extended Health, Life, LTD, EFAP) and enrollment in the Municipal Pension Plan after 3 months.
