About Albert Beck:

I am a professional knowledgeable and experienced in Indigenous culture, history, and issues related to reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. I am a Red River Métis citizen and deeply understand Indigenous peoples' lived experiences, perspectives, and traditions.

My role involves facilitating and promoting understanding and respect between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples and working to address the legacy of colonialism and systemic racism that has impacted Indigenous peoples for generations. I have worked in governments and not-for-profit organizations to develop policies, programs, and initiatives that promote reconciliation and build positive relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

I also provide education and training to help non-Indigenous individuals and organizations better understand Indigenous cultures and histories and develop the skills and knowledge needed to engage in meaningful and respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples. I also guide and support Indigenous communities in developing their own strategies for reconciliation and healing.

Experience

I have over twenty years of experience working or volunteering in national Indigenous organizations at the administration, program and policy development, and senior management levels. I also have over ten years of experience working in Indigenous programs in the federal government. Over the tenure of my professional career, I focused on reconciliation initiatives. My current work is focused on addressing violence against 2SLGBTQQIA+ people as a co-author and member of the MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+ Action Plan Committee. The Committee works with the federal departments, including WAGE (2SLGBTQI Secretariat), Heritage Canada, CIRNAC, ISC and CMHC, and FNIB/Health Canada, to advance 2SLGBTQQIA+ priorities. I lead the work on the Sixties Scoop matter for Red River Métis citizens and the search for missing Red River Métis children in unmarked graves who attended Residential and Day Schools. I sit on federal, university and community advisory committees as a private citizen advising those agencies on reconciliation matters.

Education

I continue to focus on professional development, including working on my Bachelor's Degree (Arts and Science) at Athabasca University. I have a certification in Modern Management and continue seeking other forms of education to support and advance my career aspirations.
