Position Title: Executive Member (Secretary) Academic year Organization: Canadian Association for Research in Regenerative Medicine at Queen’s University
• CARRM is a collection of not-for-profit university clubs whose objective is to advance the field of regenerative medicine. This is accomplished in two ways: by funding local research facilities and secondly, by spreading awareness for stem cell research and its therapeutic applications.
• As Secretary for this club, I was responsible for recruiting researchers to speak at our seminars and stimulating and maintaining relationships with scientists at the forefront of stem cell research. These experts would speak at our seminars about important developments in stem cell research. I recruited Dr. Sue Mueller of Ottawa Hospital and Inception Lifebank to present a seminar to the Queen’s community on umbilical cord blood for bone marrow transplantation. On another occasion I recruited Dr. Jeff Blackmer, Director of the office of ethics for the Canadian Medical Association. At our seminar he spoke to the Queen’s community about ethics in stem cell research.
