PhD PROJECT: Studied Cytochrome B5 Heme Binding Protein CYB5D2 and its Heme Binding Dependant Functions.
Demonstrated that CYB5D2 confers survival from inhibition of PI3 Kinase, and that it interacts with endogenous Cytochrome P450 Reductase in serum starved conditions.
Generated an Antibody to endogenous CYB5D2, and develped a dominant negative Heme Binding defective mutant (D86G), and shRNA knockdown stable cell lines.
Demonstrated that Heme Binding was required for CYB5D2 to confer survival from chemotherapeutic agents ie Paclitaxol, Doxorubicin and Cisplatin.
Recipient of a 3 Year Heart and Stroke Grant for work on CYB5D2 affects on cholesterol synthesis
| MSc (Molecular Biology of Cancer) | York University (1998-2002)-Toronto, Canada |
MSc PROJECT: Studied the role and regulation of a serine/threonine kinase, GSK3β in v-src transformed Chicken Embryo Fibroblasts (CEFs). Generated stable cell lines expressing wt GSK3β, and dominant negative and a constitutively active version. Studied known substrates of
GSK3β such as the transcription factor AP1 (c-fos and Jun) and Cyclin D1. Cloned and expressed Chicken CylcinD1 showing this as the substrate of GSK3β.
