Home Services / Social Care
About Caralee Wiseman:
I have over 30 yrs experience in the field that spans from being a Consultant with 2 different school boards working with Differently abled and Neurodivergent students to Facilitating a Pilot Program that connected Restorative Justice and Education with Community agencies that was audited at 98% success rate with evidence based practise. I also worked in the Homelessness sector for the past 10 years as a Shelter supervisor and more recently as my current position of Supervisor of Housing Programs with community partners where I mentor 10 amazing staff working at 3 different sites covering a caseload of just over 100 youth.
Experience
At my currentposition of Shift Supervisor; St. Clares Housing Project (with Covenant House); I supervise 10 employees who provide case management to just over 100 youth in the supportive independent living program at St. Clares and the 2 other sites I oversee. We work under Toronto Shelter Standards guidelines of the Housing First for Youth Model at St. Clares. Before this role, I was Shift Supervisor at the main shelter site for Covenant House which is a youth homeless shelter that houses youth aged 16-24 for 9 years. I was responsible for supervising 11 full-time and per-dem staff. I am responsible for ensuring that all Covenant House policies and procedures are followed and adhered to during my time on shift with safety being at the forefront of my decisions. My role also involves networking and connecting with other staff in other Departments to support where needed (staffing issues, support with youth, safety concerns in/out of building). Quality assurance measures are key to my role as well as to ensure that the needs of the youth are being met and that we are addressing any service gaps that may present themselves.
My ability to perform rests based on my professional development and the many training courses that have heightened my skillset within the homelessness sector. As a Shift Supervisor, I understand what it takes to manage employees and deliver on program expectations. I am well- versed in many aspects of the homelessness sector and the needs of the client; and am a quick study and easily pick up on expectations placed before me; always delivering the outcomes within the provided timelines. My education and work experience are tied together by my ability to empathize and communicate with others. I believe that is what makes me a successful Supervisor; the staff I work with trust my process and know that I will advocate and support them from a Trauma Informed perspective but will also hold them accountable as needed for coaching and mentoring opportunities.
