I've been in the insurance industry for many years. Currently, I worked for a P & C insurer as an Underwriting Assistant providing support to underwriters. On the side I work as a Financial Advisor selling financial services products such as life and critical illness insurance, savings, and investment products.

Experience

Underwriting Assistant. Intact Insurance (Working remotely, September 2022 – Present )

Working for the Specialty Solutions Conversion team in charge of converting underwriting data from a newly acquired insurer into the company’s data management systems.

•     Performing data gathering and entry while maintaining data integrity using multiple data management systems needed for underwriters to make sound underwriting decisions.

•     Collaborating with underwriters and managers in processing renewals, endorsements, and cancellations within specified turnaround times.

•     Providing support to the corporate teams on various assignments that includes systems testing, reporting system defects and other tasks as required.

•     Processing and analyzing data using various mapping documents provided by the corporate teams and specialists.

•     Participating in ad hoc projects in keeping with the mandate of the underwriting support team to provide appropriate, timely, and efficient support to multiple stakeholders of the organization.

Underwriting Support Clerk. Intact Insurance 

Specialty Lines -Conversion Team(Working remotely, September 2021 – September 2022 )

Worked for the Specialty Solutions Conversion team in support of the management  and integration of data of insurance contracts from a newly acquired insurer into the  company’s data management systems. 

  • Performed data entry while gathering vital information as the need arose using various data management systems.
  • Coordinated with underwriters in understanding take ups necessary to maintain the integrity of information stored in databases. 
  • Provided support to the corporate teams on various assignments that includes systems testing, reporting system defects, and other tasks as required.
  • Participated in ad hoc projects in keeping with the mandate of the underwriting support team to provide appropriate, timely, and efficient support to multiple stakeholders of the organization

Specialty Lines - Customer Service Unit Team  (Working remotely, August , 2022 – November , 2022)

Concurrently worked for the Specialty Lines Customer Service Unit team to provide support in the distribution of tasks within a turnaround time.

  • Provided support with new business submissions that required categorizing submissions by business appetite and determining eligibility based on set underwriting guidelines and assigning to the appropriate team and underwriter for handling.
  • Monitoring and determining the nature of correspondences and forwarding these to the appropriate team and /or underwriter for handling.
  • Updating the team’s tracker for proper monitoring of assigned tasks

Administrative Support Clerk.  Intact Insurance, 700 University Ave, Toronto (August 2013 – 2021) 

  • Provided administrative support to the Policy Assembly team that includes preparing data reports in spreadsheets using CMOD and Halcion to aid team members track and pull hard copies of specific policies for special handling as requested by commercial and personal lines underwriters and managers across branches.
  • Organized and assembled stacks of printed policies by transaction type ensuring that these are mailed out within a 24-hour turnaround time making sure that each policy has the applicable wordings and inserts attached especially for renewals and new businesses.
  • Monitored incoming correspondence, communicate and coordinate between the policy assembly and underwriting teams to ensure that particular policies that include endorsements and cancellations are handled correctly as instructed.
  • Participated in ad hoc projects such as on improving processes and more specific areas such as on updating forms and revising policy wordings involving tests before they go live.
  • Trained, audited, and coached new team members on main tasks and other responsibilities in line with set standards set by the management team.

Data Entry Clerk. Wawanesa Insurance, Toronto (July 2010-July,2012). 

  • Made use of multiple systems in entering  new business into the database and periodically updating data while ensuring standards set by the team lead are met.
  • Organized and assembled policy documents for mailing out within a 24 hour turnaround time.
  • Retrieved data appropriate to the requirements of underwriting by pulling files to check background reports such as insured’s claims history relevant to come up with sound underwriting decisions.
  • Assisted underwriters with general office duties such as photocopying, scanning, faxing, and in the inventory of office supplies.

Financial Advisor. Sun Life Financial, Toronto (September 2012-August 2013)

  • Carried out marketing and the direct sale of a wide range of financial services products that includes insurance, retirement, and wealth products.
