David Matheson

I have always had an artistic streak, which I have fine tuned through my education at MacEwan University and Pixel Blue College (Edmonton, AB), the latter of which has provided great experience getting me involved in digital-medium work. Adapting visual critical-thinking skills that I have used in fine arts to graphic design commissions at Pixel Blue, I have been able to create a variety of branding elements ranging from illustration and logos to mockups and web-wireframes on Adobe programs such as Illustrator, XD, InDesign, and Photoshop. These commissions were for independent businesses and communities with small to full scale projects. The end results brought forth a satisfying and communicative product for the client that they would use to impart on their patrons.

Post-collage, I have done a number of design projects on my own as a way of carrying on my creativity: from the avant-garde aesthetics of punk illustration to giving Italian regional flags a visual makeover. Furthermore, I continue to draw and experiment with pen, pencil, and ink; not wanting to lose sight of my artistic foundation and passions. Having a foot in both worlds has allowed me to continuously expand my portfolio, and discover ways in incorporating two mediums that would otherwise contradict each other.

Outside of drawing and designing, I enjoy reading comics and graphic novels, watching animated movies/TV shows, and trying out different craft beers and Scotch whisky.
