About Farzan Farnaghi:
Inspired by a personal passion for Hip Hop culture, my research explores its potential to catalyze positive change in disenfranchised communities through interior design. I completed my undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph. I now delves into the sociocultural influence of Hip Hop, seeking to empower and uplift youth and foster self-advancement. My goals are to inspire socially conscious designers while establishing an interdisciplinary design practice dedicated to addressing inner-city community challenges. I recognize the opportunity to understand how interior spaces rooted in Hip Hop culture can uplift and empower marginalized youth to promising futures.
Experience
I am a versatile professional with a rich background in interior design, landscape architecture, and project management. As a Site Coordinator at Tridel, I successfully managed logistics, quality control, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring projects were completed on time and within budget. My hands-on experience at Niche Décor involved developing innovative design concepts, creating detailed models, and collaborating with suppliers and contractors to bring designs to life. Internships at The MBTW Group and the Town of East Gwillimbury further enriched my expertise in landscape architecture, where I focused on conceptual design, site planning, design implementation, and detailing. I also gained valuable experience as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant, where I supported course instruction, conducted research, and managed data, further refining my analytical skills and ability to communicate complex information effectively. My diverse experience across these roles highlights my ability to contribute effectively to complex and innovative projects.
Education
I hold a Master of Interior Design from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph. This academic foundation provided me with a deep understanding of design principles, spatial planning, and sustainable practices. My studies emphasized the integration of cultural and environmental considerations into design, preparing me to approach projects with both creativity and technical expertise. Additionally, my LEED Green Associate certification underscores my commitment to sustainability and green building practices, further enhancing my qualifications in the field.
