About Jaya Thakur:

I am a dedicated professional with a Bachelor's in Law Enforcement Studies from the Justice Institute of British Columbia and a comprehensive background in law enforcement, security, compliance, and crisis management. My career trajectory reflects a strong commitment to public safety, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of empathetic support to individuals and families in challenging situations.

Currently, I serve as an Affected Person Liaison at the Independent Investigations Office of BC, where I manage investigative tasks, including delivering next-of-kin notifications and providing critical emotional and logistical support to families during times of crisis. In this role, I utilize my skills in crisis management, communication, and empathy to ensure that the investigative process is handled with care and professionalism while maintaining transparency and respect for those affected.

As a Compliance and Enforcement Officer with the BC Public Service – Residential Tenancy Branch, I was tasked with leading investigations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enforcing the Residential Tenancy Act to safeguard both tenant and landlord rights.

I also have extensive experience as a Postal Inspector with the Criminal and Investigations Unit of Canada Post, where I specialized in safeguarding the integrity of Canada’s mail system. My duties involved investigating mail-related offences, including the interception of illicit substances, firearms, and contraband being trafficked through the postal service. In collaboration with law enforcement agencies across Canada and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), I was instrumental in preventing the trafficking of illegal drugs and alcohol through the mail stream. I worked closely with local and federal police forces to conduct investigations.

My background in corrections as a Correctional Officer at the Alouette Correctional Facility for Women and a Detention Guard for Canadian Border Services, where I was responsible for maintaining security, managing inmate behaviour, and ensuring compliance with institutional protocols.

I have completed certifications in RCMP-Jetway, Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C, Trauma-Informed Practice, Correctional Segregation Reform, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (CORR-1044). Currently pursuing the Investigation and Enforcement Certificate at JIBC, reinforcing my commitment to professional growth and expanding my investigative and enforcement skills.
