John Cutcliffe

I am a doctorally prepared Registered Psychotherapist (Q), over thirty years of experience in mental health care in Canada, the UK and the USA. Clients I have worked with include those reporting challenges with: grief, bereavement and loss; self-esteem, self-worth, & self-concept; stress related issues and managing/coping with stress; couples/marriage counselling; mood related challenges and issues; major transitions and changes/life events; interpersonal and relationship difficulties; marriage/life partner challenges; a sense of hopelessness; bullying; personal discovery, exploration, growth and actualisation.

I work from a Client-Centred perspective, my counselling practice is informed by several theoretical approaches; Rogerian Person-Centred, Freudian Psychodynamic , Existential and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The particular emphasis being driven by the client’s needs.

 I am a former Professor of Mental Health Nursing, having held three Professorial Endowed Research Chairs and have over 34 years experience in mental healthcare across four countries. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Q), reg. no. 11130; College of Registered Psychotherapist's of Ontario. I am currently winding down my own psychotherapy/mental health counselling practice in Kingston. I have over 330 publications, my work has been translated into seven different languages, cited well over 11,000 times, and is used throughout the world (and included in several Ontario Best Practice Guidelines).
