Laura Jaimes

I am a geologist with assertive communication, critical thinking and adaptability, I specialize in geological, engineering geological, geomorphological mapping, and practical applications of GIS technology. I am proficient in identifying and characterizing natural hazards such as floods, flash floods and landslides and their impact on the population and infrastructure.

I have conducted preliminary research, interpreted aerial photographs and satellite imagery, conducted fieldwork, and developed final geological and geomorphological maps, inventory, and characterization of morphodynamics and reports. I also have used GIS to perform various processes such as map algebra, 3D analysis, and satellite image interpretation to generate new spatial information for applications in environmental zoning, natural hazard zoning, landscape, geology, geomorphology, environmental zoning, and land use. As well as, I have managed the geodatabase, created geospatial models, and designed custom maps and visualizations.

During my studies in geology, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the Earth's structure, composition, and natural processes through the study of topics such as mineralogy, petrology, sedimentology, and tectonics, as well as the tools and techniques used to study these subjects, including fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and computer modelling.

I gained practical experience through my internships in natural hazards mapping and other research projects. My degree in geology has equipped me with a broad range of skills and knowledge that are valuable for various careers in industries such as mining, energy, environmental science, and beyond.
