Responsibilities

  • OHIP billing - submission of daily billings, resubmission of MOH corrected claims and follow ups, monthly nursing home billings and following up on health card information details
  • Submission of WSIB billings and forms and appropriate followup for payment
  • Managing old charts and regular maintenance for shredding as per CPSO guidelines
  • Management of billing for notes and forms not covered by OHIP and appropriate follow up
  • EMR database maintenance: liaising with Telus health IT support for problem solving related to updates and notifying doctors regarding updates
  • Medical document scanning
  • a small amount of time with patient-facing secretarial tasks (eg: greet & check in patients, answer & triage phone calls, book appointments, respond to messages)

Education

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills with phone manners and customer service to our patients
  • Highly organized and detail orientated, self motivated, ability to multitask
  • Must have understanding of a highly dynamic office with 3 family physicians and a FHT nurse, working seamlessly with our secretary and RPN
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Medical Secretary diploma from a recognized local training institution is recommended
  • Medical Billing Course done in Ontario is highly recommended
  • Experience working in the medical industry would be an asset
  • Familiarity with Telus PS Suite EMR would be an asset
