Experience
My laboratory experience spans both academic coursework and hands-on research at the University of Toronto. Through comprehensive Cell and Molecular Biology courses, I developed a strong foundation in experimental design and data analysis. This theoretical knowledge was substantially enhanced by my practical experience in the Senatore Lab, where I contributed to a project focused on engineering a transfectable plasmid for Trichoplax adhaerens.
In the Senatore Lab, I honed my skills in various molecular biology techniques. These include PCR amplification, restriction digests, bacterial transformation, and gel electrophoresis. I also gained valuable experience in primer design for fluorescent protein cloning, demonstrating my ability to contribute to complex research projects. My technical proficiency extends to spectrophotometric assays, DNA extraction and purification methods, and the use of specialized equipment such as micropipettes and nanodrop spectrophotometers.
Beyond technical skills, I developed a comprehensive understanding of laboratory operations. This includes maintaining and organizing laboratory supplies, ensuring proper equipment functionality, and adhering to stringent safety protocols. I maintained detailed records and inventories, contributing to the overall efficiency and reproducibility of our research.
Throughout my laboratory experiences, I've consistently demonstrated attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team. I'm eager to apply this combination of technical expertise and laboratory management skills to contribute effectively in a professional research environment.
