About Maria Magpale:
“I’m a recent graduate of the Bridging to Canadian Nursing program at Mount Royal University, where I completed 315 hours of clinical practicum at Foothills Medical Centre’s Cardiology Units 81 and 82. That experience helped me strengthen my clinical judgment, medication administration, and patient-centred communication skills.
I currently hold an active RN permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta and a provisional LPN permit with CLPNA. Right now, I’m working as an LPN at JB Wood Continuing Care Centre under Alberta Health Services, providing compassionate care to residents with chronic and complex conditions.
Before moving to Canada, I also worked as a pediatric nurse and clinic nurse in the Philippines and Saudi Arabia, which taught me adaptability and cultural sensitivity in caring for diverse patients.
I’m passionate about lifelong learning and hope to continue building my skills in acute and continuing-care settings—particularly in medicine, cardiology, or critical-care nursing. My goal is to grow within AHS as a confident and competent RN while providing safe, holistic, and patient-focused care.”
Experience
I have a diverse nursing background that includes experience in pediatric and continuing care settings, both internationally and in Canada. I currently work as a Licensed Practical Nurse at JB Wood Continuing Care Centre (Alberta Health Services), where I provide resident-centered care to individuals with chronic and complex health conditions.
Before moving to Canada, I worked as a pediatric nurse in Saudi Arabia and as a clinic nurse in the Philippines, providing care to children and families in outpatient and community settings.
I also recently completed the Bridging to Canadian Nursing (BCN) program at Mount Royal University, which included 315 clinical hours at Foothills Medical Centre (Cardiology Units 81/82). That experience helped me refine my assessment, medication administration, and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team.
Overall, my experience has strengthened my ability to deliver safe, compassionate, and holistic care across different healthcare environments.
Education
I recently graduated from the Bridging to Canadian Nursing (BCN) program at Mount Royal University in Calgary, where I completed 315 clinical hours at Foothills Medical Centre’s Cardiology Units (81/82). This program strengthened my clinical judgment, communication, and critical-thinking skills in the Canadian healthcare context.
I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the Philippines, which provided my foundational nursing knowledge and prepared me for international practice.
Through these programs, I developed a strong understanding of patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration—skills I now apply in my current role as a Licensed Practical Nurse under Alberta Health Services.
