About Romil Patel:
I am Romil Patel, an Electrical Engineer recently graduated with Masters degree (MEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering) from University of Calgary, Canada. Prior to that, I used to work as an Electrical Engineer for Nirma Limited (Chemical Complex), Kalatalav after completion of my Bachelors degree (BTech in Electrical Engineering) from Institute of Technology, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. Being an EIT with APEGA, and having worked at DV8 Energy, Calgary (oil and gas industry) I am looking for a long term opportunity to work in the electrical domain.
As stated earlier, I have an experience of 2.16 years working in an industrial setting and that too in food grade chemical complex. I was part of the Project Team (Technical Services Department) which during my tenure was entitled to set up the new project of Phosphoric Acid Plant. As an Electrical Engineer, I was responsible for conducting various project works starting from review of electrical engineering designs and drawings i.e. one-line, Site Plan, Electrical Plan, Grounding Plan, Conduit Plan, Lighting Plan, Lightning Protection Plan and Bill of material (BOM or list of materials), calculations and power system studies report, installation of all electrical equipments (HV and LV panels in substation, Transformers, VFDs, motors, electrical earthing grid, industrial light fittings) to testing and commissioning of all the installed items. Coordinating all designs with the consulting team as well as the client (Plant Process and Maintenance Teams), work on any new modification requirement (using AutoCAD) to see that the design solutions meet all applicable codes, standards and regulations and finally seek necessary approvals. I also have knowledge of equipment (equipment including conveyors, crushers, compressor, screen, bucket elevators, fans) safety circuits. Conducting inspections of panels and other equipment at vendor facility to ensure proper function and adherence to the specifications as part of quality check.
Being in project department, coordination and effective communication with designers and engineers of other disciplines is required to complete deliverable. Hence with the aid of timely and efficient communication, maintaining good relationships with all parties played a vital role. Documentation of various reports as well as preparation of DPR (daily progress report) so as to keep track of the project deliverable and accomplishments of client requirements. Apart from that, material management in a huge firm requires inventory management which I am aware of. In addition to that, in an industrial area personal safety is equally important hence have an HSE mindset and experience of using personal protective equipments, used to uneven terrain, harsh environment and climbing ladders. Played a part in identifying potential safety or environmental concerns and initiating appropriate action while on periodic safety visits. Initiating tool box talks to impart awareness about safety while working as well as conducting training sessions to guide new team members about all the processes and technical details. Managing all tasks by setting priorities to organize and complete the assigned work within deadline.
Furthermore, over the years I developed a knack of learning new things so, it would be easy for me to get used to the software and other norms used at your firm. Also, having a valid Class 5 driver's license, I am willing to travel for performing site visits. Hence overall, I believe that I would be a good fit for the organization.
