I have bachelor in software engineering and master from Concordia university in quality system engineering. My master thesis focused on Machine Learning and what we did actually is we developed an e-learning application. 

Ans as you know when we apply ML methods it means that we have to collect data in order to convert these data into useful information. In this case these information was used to make the agent more intelligent. There was an agent and it was supposed to be intelligent to provide the corresponding and accurate guidelines to the users which were students. I can say during these 2 and a half years I covered many roles including data scientist, data engineer, ML specialist and data engineer.

After that I joined MS and not sure if you know MS, it's a financial institution.

What I did in my recent position. MS is a big business and our team was dealing with massive data volume. As a data engineers we interpret statistical data and turn it into useful information that our financial advisors were using for critical decision-making and to adjust the company balance sheet. And also, they were depending on these data to optimize the company’s decisions for example what product they have to invest for high return. This is part of the data manipulation task which I was responsible for. I was also responsible for ETL process because we were receiving data from different resources (like different databases such as Sybase, db2 and oracle sometimes from json files or excel sheet and upstream applications) and I was responsible for extracting, loading, transforming and storing into the destination. I was coding for the ETL process and as a first step we were storing the data into hive db in our staging tables and from there we were updating the final db which was Teradata and also saving the data in Hdfs and also we were creating reports and analytics for downstream.

Data Engineer (Big Data Developer) 2020-Present Data Engineer, Montreal, QC, Canada

  Being responsible for Data manipulation (preparing data into a usable form) and loading data as an input for the calculation engine implemented by Scala and Spark. Using SQL, ETL jobs to fetch raw data from Teradata, SQL Server, Sybase and DB2 for analysis.

  Modeling complex financial products in ELM and integrating into the existing calculator using Scala and Spark. 

  Implementing and configuring scheduled jobs using java, batch script, Zookeeper and Spark and storing the result in HFDS (Hadoop Distributed File System).

  Data manipulation (preparing data into a usable form) and maintaining the calculator engine (to apply complex financial rules for netting down Company’s Balance Sheet) using SQL, Scala and Spark.

  Creating the appropriate tables and views in Hive database as temporary result for Data Pipelines to be used by reports, machine learning or to update the final result in Teradata.

  Running and monitoring jobs using Spark. Killing long-running procedures (SQL) and optimizing the related queries to shorten regular loads and transformation for efficiency. 

  Migrating the existing calculator to cloud using Azure Databricks.
