Sebastián Salazar

I am a professional urban planner, but I have also worked as a community developer, both in the local government context. I am skilled at explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences in the areas of urbanism, local governance, public services, but also geography, communities, culture and languages. I can also organize spaces for cultural interaction between people of different backgrounds to come together and share their cultures and stories. I am good within a team working towards a common goal of welcoming and explaining aspects of a community, an institution, or a system, to residents, users, voters, or students.

I worked at the City of Fredericton for 14 years, of which eight years were as a community planner (urbanist), and six as a community liaison (community developer) for the City. Before that I worked in the private, public, and non-profit sectors in Peru, as an urban planner for Macrogestión, a communications officer for the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, and a project co-ordinator for JICA/Aproddis, respectively.

I have a master's degree in Urban Planning from McGill University in Québec, and a bachelor's degree in Russian/Eurasian Studies from Bard College in upstate New York.
