Sydney Docherty

My name is Sydney Docherty and I'm a Child and Youth Worker.

I took an interest in becoming a Child and Youth Worker after receiving an opportunity in 2012 to partake in a duel credit in a Child and Youth Worker program while in high school. Once I completed the program, I knew that becoming a CYW was my dream career as I've always had a passion for supporting others and having a positive impact of their lives. 

I attended Georgian College and completed the 3 year Child and Youth Worker Program. I was formerly a live-in Child and Youth Counsellor at Youthdale Treatment Centre at the Re-Entry program from March 2019 to August 2022. Sadly, I was laid off due to the Re-Entry program closing. 

During my career at Youthdale Treatment Centre, I was in-charge of creating Behavioural Profiles, Crisis Continuum Plans, Plan of Cares, intake/discharge documents, Incident reports, Serious Occurrence Reports, Daily Logs as well as Medication Administration. 

I have experience with AWOL's, self-harm, escalated behaviours and youth with mental health disorders such as ODD, ED, HDHD, ASD, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD and more.

My goal has always been to obtain a career in a hospital setting as a Child and Youth Counsellor. When clients come into our care, they should feel safe, supported and heard so we can all collaborate and create a treatment plan that meets the needs of each individual while developing a therapeutic milieu.

At the end of the day, we can't change the lives of everybody. But what we can do is do the best we can everyday to have a positive impact on the lives of young peop
