Daniel’s technical skills are a key asset. Proficient in Python, Java, and R, he has applied these tools to data manipulation, statistical modeling, and machine learning projects. His expertise extends to software such as LaTeX, VS Code, and the Microsoft and Google Suites, enabling him to streamline data processing and present findings with precision. Notably, he has developed machine learning models for disease prediction and applied Extreme Value Theory for advanced risk assessment.
Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, Daniel enjoys a well-rounded lifestyle. He is an avid NBA fan, finds creative expression through playing the piano and dancing Latin and Modern Dance, and stays active through badminton. These interests reflect his discipline, creativity, and ability to balance work with personal growth.
Experience
I am an actuarial and financial risk professional with experience in both life insurance and risk analytics. I am currently working as a Financial Risk Analyst at Canada Life, where I support Bloomberg-to-Excel data migration and validation, hedge effectiveness analysis, Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) reporting, and quarterly risk committee materials for senior management. Previously, I completed an actuarial internship at Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, where I worked on both life and property insurance projects, including pricing analysis, statutory reserve modeling in GGY AXIS, CSM and Risk Adjustment reporting, and dashboard development. My experience combines actuarial modeling, financial risk analysis, and technical tools such as Excel, Bloomberg, Python, R, SQL, Tableau, and GGY AXIS.
Education
I recently completed a Master of Actuarial Science at the University of Waterloo, where I further developed my knowledge in actuarial modeling, insurance product analysis, and financial risk management. Before that, I earned a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science with a minor in Computer Science from Arcadia University. In addition to my academic training, I have passed multiple actuarial exams from both the SOA and CAS, including Exam P, FM, FAM, ALTAM/ASTAM, CAS Exam 1, Exam 2, and MAS-I, along with several VEE credits. This background has given me a strong foundation in actuarial science, quantitative analysis, and technical problem-solving.
