Hi! My name is Tom, and I am a junior student at the University of Waterloo looking for a Summer 2024 Co-op position. I have interests in circuit and PCB design, with a focused interest in devices and signals. 

Hardware Developer | span.io May 2023 – August 2023
o Performed functional testing of Hybrid PLC/ RF data transmission technology by subjecting it to in-band and broadband noise sources with data throughput and packet loss as performance metrics for determining its viability
o Independently progressed through the design cycle of a 6-layer low LQI PCBA that implemented the Hybrid technology while meeting UL creepage, clearance, and 4-6kV surge standards using design rules, clamping and high voltage isolation circuitry, Polar Instruments software, coplanar and offset coplanar waveguides, via stitching, shielding, and switch node isolation for a matching PLC and 10% better RF data throughput than the ST test PCBA

Hardware / Firmware Developer | HyIvy Health September 2022 – December 2022
o Developed on the PCB design for a pelvic floor rehabilitation device to facilitate circuits responsible for power distribution, heating, and the dilation of the silicon enclosure while resolving 88% of issues in the existing design
o Independently developed, sourced parts, and assembled PCBs for the testing of device PCBs while considering the current carrying capacity of traces, mechanical fitting of ribbon cable and 0.1” headers, header pinouts based on the isolation of digital and analog signal groups, and trace fanouts from the headers for proper clearances
o Established the foundational firmware of the Bluetooth feature using a Nordic nrf52840 development board and the Zephyr RTOS to create a functioning peripheral Bluetooth application with a completed Bluetooth services structure

Firmware Developer | onsemi January 2022 – April 2022
o Executed manual sanity tests for applications being developed for a wireless silicon integrated chip product centered around a CM33 Arm core to ensure proper functionality between SDK releases
o Designed application tests using GDB/MI interface and Behave framework for SPI, I2C, UART, hard fault, and LPDSP32 processor applications with a 240% increase in efficiency by the end of the term
 

AR/VR Software Developer | University of Waterloo Research Group May 2021 – August 2021
o Processed motion capture suit data using Axis Neuron into organized .bvh files for rigging in Blender
o Created automated rigging and animations using Blender and Rokoko Studio plugins for efficient the use of motion capture files in the creation of animated models for use in Unity AR development
o Expanded the AR/VR mason training software in Unity through the writing of scripts and Unity features to help visualize the motion among masons with live heat mapping of body parts based on the quality of the motion
