About Vivian Tan:

Hi! I am currently a graduate researcher at Toronto Metropolitan University focusing on finding improvements in surgical treatment planning for cardiovascular diseases. I am expecting to complete my Master of Applied Science degree in October, and am open to working new roles! I have  experience in CAD and software development as required for my thesis and undergraduate work.

Experience

  • Graduate Teaching Assistant:
    • I have worked as a head TA for the novel upper year course, Cardiovascular Biomechanics.
    • I was responsible for developing the labs and projects for this course, including an internal physical flow loop system to replicate physiological conditions in 3D printed vascular structures.
    • I have also taught foundations in electric circuits.
  • Graduate Research Assistant:
    • My work focuses on investigating improvements in surgical treatment planning for congenital heart diseases
    • For this project, I've performed computational fluid dynamic simulations on digital models, developed CAD designs for a physical system, and have performed mechanical testing on synthetic tissue-mimicking materials
    • I've also developed scripts in Python to optimize post-processing for simulation results

Education

  • Expected MASc (Biomedical Engineering) in October 2024
  • BEng (Biomedical), May 2023
