Shifts are Monday to Friday (9:00am to 5:00pm) with one late shift (11:00am to 7:00pm) per week on a set schedule. Some flexibility in work hours may be required.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Work collaboratively with case managers to identify individuals and families at imminent risk of eviction or housing loss
  • Help service users prepare for Landlord and Tenant Board hearings, access legal services, and create a plan to avoid eviction
  • Provide direct accompaniment, guidance, advocacy, and emotional support to service users attending Landlord and Tenant Board hearings
  • Build and maintain partnerships with locate private and nonprofit housing providers
  • Liaise and collaborate with the Hamilton Community Legal Clinic to ensure service users have access to legal advice and services, and to follow through on lawyer's requests
  • Resolve issues with landlords and tenants as they arise by providing advocacy, mediation, and education regarding rights and responsibilities
  • Remain current on issues related but not limited to the Residential Tenancies Act, Landlord and Tenant Board, Ontario Human Rights Code, Family Law Act, Federal Divorce Act, Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and other aspects of the legal system as it relates to housing barriers and challenges
  • Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Postsecondary education in Social Service or a related field is required
  • Minimum 1year related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in Social Services or a related field
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the housing system in the City of Hamilton, the Residential Tenancies Act, and the Ontario Human Rights Code required
  • Have strong knowledge of and experience working with a range of issues impacting youth, women, and families including homelessness, violence against women and children, poverty, mental illness and substance use
  • Commitment to and experience working within a personcentered, traumainformed, harm reduction and housing first framework
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, verbal and written communication, time management and organization, and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
  • Valid G license required
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
