Job Title: LINC Instructor for Skilled Trades
Department:
Language Training & Settlement Services (LTSS)
Locations:
Hybrid / Burlington
Start Date:
January 2024
Contract Length: 30 weeks / year (3 sessions of 10 weeks each)
Hours of Work: 35 hours / week - January to March 2024
17.5 hours / week - all sessions after March 2024
Schedule:
Monday to Friday
Reports To:
LINC Coordinator
These are your responsibilities:
- Responsible for program delivery based on current LINC curriculum for the _Home Renovation for Newcomers_ program;
- Teach lessons aligned with the core program (home renovation theory and practice) which will include basic math used in the trades field (ex. imperial and dimensional measurements), job specific vocabulary around topics such as framing (general, floor and wall), drywall (installing and finishing) and flooring to name a few;
- Prepare learners for quizzes and assignments that will test their understanding of each program module ex. Power Tools;
- Checkin for learner language and engagement levels as well as workshop progress (handson) with the skilled trades instructor;
- Perform administrative tasks, including class attendance and submit weekly to project assistant;
- Monitor student attendance and strive to maintain 80%100%; and,
- Attend staff, department and other meetings as required.
What you need to bring to this job:
- TESL Ontario certified and familiar with Canadian Language Benchmarks;
- Postsecondary education/training in education, social sciences or in any related field in the trades or construction industry;
- A familiarity with the skilled trades industry in Canada;
- An understanding of theOntario Building Code and Canadian Building Practices an asset;
- General knowledge of first aid and safety needs required when working in the skilled trades and construction industry;
- Aware of current market and workplace trends in the skilled trades industry, especially as related to internationally trained professionals;
- Demonstrated ability to provide an effective, stimulating learning environment for adults;
- Culturally sensitive; experience with clients from a diverse background;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
- Ability to teach lessons by displaying them through a projector or smart screen; and,
- Experience with workplace training or experience in professional practice or industry an asset.
