The Community and Family Services Coordinator helps individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, the Salvation Army.

This position provides support to the Food Bank Program and other programs provided by Community and Family Services.

The Community and Family Services Coordinator also provides a high impact case management approach for specific client households. This approach focuses on identifying and addressing root causes for families living in poverty.

They provide casework services through the Pathway of Hope (POH) approach utilizing a strengths-based approach to interview, assess, and formulate a plan of action to assist families in moving from crisis to stability.

  • Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (35 hours with a 30minute unpaid lunch break per day)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Client Services and Program:


  • Coordinate/organize annual donation and fundraising efforts and/or seasonal programs (Food Drives, Donation Drives, Christmas Program, Toy Distribution, Summer Day Camp, Community Meals, etc.) as needed
  • Assist with food bank operations: ordering and/or receipt of food donations, cleanliness, recording, general organization of food according to safe food handling policies and procedures
  • Work collaboratively on program development with Corps Officer(s)
  • Complete the necessary training to become a Pathway of Hope (POH) Caseworker and attend regular team meetings and online training sessions
  • Perform all aspects of client management for POH using the program specific approach (selection, intake, assessment, goal planning, regular meetings, action, reviewing progress, transition, and follow up)
  • Maintain a Pathway of Hope caseload of two to five participant files at a time
  • Work closely with other ministry units in Winnipeg in order to provide holistic client support
  • Provide support, attend training, and assist with Emergency Disaster Response as directed

Community Engagement:


  • Engage and Network with Community Partners to work collaboratively and as an innovative partner
  • Supervise and coordinate Community Engagement related programs (Nutritious Food Program, Back to School Backpacks, Red Cap, etc.) while ensuring that ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual aspect is applied to all program initiatives
  • Participate in relevant Community Meetings
  • Maintain a database of Community Assets and refer clients as necessary to other available resources
  • Refer clients to appropriate ministry opportunities at Heritage Park Temple (i.e., Pastoral Care, Bible Studies, Sunday Worship)

Team Lead Accountabilities:


  • Serve as Team Lead for summer day camp staff, and volunteers
  • Recruit and train volunteers for programs
  • Interview job applicants alongside Corps Officer(s)
  • Assigning work, providing direction, and checking for adherence to quality and standards
  • Provide input and recommendations to Corps Officer on recruitment, jobrelated training, performance management, and budgetary issues
  • Escalate any personnel/safety issues or concerns to the Corps Officer for guidance and direction
  • Supervise, coordinate, and lead the Christmas Hamper program and Teen Gift program
  • Provides regular reports to the Mission Board re: progress of community ministries
  • Participates in interviewing, hiring and supervising of Temporary Kettle Workers for Christmas Fund Raising yearly
  • Assists in interviewing and hiring of Youth Worker and oversees supervision of Youth Worker

Administration and Reporting:


  • Input data into Link2Feed; complete and submit all statistical reports in a timely manner
  • Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate participant files
  • Work within established Salvation Army policies, procedures, and budget
  • Uphold the mission and values of The Salvation Army in all aspect of required tasks
  • General administrative duties as required, such as answering phones, directing inquiries, etc. as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a formal postsecondary/college program of two academic years in business, administration, or social services
