Nature of Work:

Reporting to the Director and the Coordinator of Admissions and Transfer Credit, Teaching, Learning and Student Experience (TLSE), you will assess the credentials of domestic and international student applicants and/or perform transfer credit evaluations, contribute to developing, updating and maintaining appropriate tools for units to effectively and consistently evaluate domestic and international credentials; follow standard operating procedures for international and domestic credential assessment; monitor credential-evaluation decisions for consistency and accuracy; and contribute to excellent prospective student service.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

Work in collaboration with admissions officers and admission assistants as part of a credential evaluation team, to evaluate secondary and post-secondary credentials for programs administered through the Admissions and Transfer Credit Office and determine admission decisions and/or to perform transfer credit evaluations for undergraduate applicants according to best practices.


  • Evaluate credentials according to national and international best practices and in accordance with admission policies; calculate admission and awards averages; evaluate English proficiency according to established policy and procedures.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and promoting a complete set of procedures, processes and tools to verify the accreditation of institutions, authenticate documents, and conduct grade conversions for domestic and international student applicants.
  • Provide training as required to Admissions staff and Recruitment staff (and other stakeholders where required) regarding admission policies and best practices.
  • Provide efficient and timely service to applicants and university stakeholders.
  • Perform transfer credit evaluations for undergraduate applicants, outgoing exchange students and other units when/if needed according to best practices.
  • Work closely with others in Recruitment, Admissions, the Teaching, Learning and Student Experience Division, and university stakeholders to ensure successful transition from applicant to registered student.
  • Develop a strong relationship with academic departments of the University, the University Language Centre, the International Student & Study Abroad Centre, the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, nondirect entry colleges, and other external partners.
  • Other duties as required.

Education:
Completion of post-secondary education strongly preferred, but a combination of education and direct experience will be considered.

Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills required; strong student service focus; contribute to a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment, able to engage stakeholders and build consensus; demonstrated capacity for facilitating and managing change; proven aptitude to develop and evaluate administrative tools and procedures; able to work independently and also thrive as an integral part of a cross-unit team; full computer literacy required; some programming/database development experience an advantage.
