Job Summary

The Research Assistant will provide research support to Dr. Jasmine Grewal (Principal Investigator). This position is responsible for the smooth running of the day-to-day research operations of Dr. Grewal's research projects.

Organizational Status

The Research Assistant will report to the Principal Investigator. Will work closely with other staff to fulfill the operational requirements of the research group.

Work Performed Review, become knowledgeable about, and adhere to clinical research protocols.- Develop informed consent forms in consultation with PI, sponsor and REB- Prepare REB and regulatory submissions- Submit relevant documents to REB, sponsors and regulatory bodies- Organize and prepare charts/case report forms/remote data entry Communicate study procedures to clinical and research personnel, and provide updates and support to other staff when required- Participate in screening, consenting, enrollment, and participants' study follow-up calls- Perform data entry in a timely and accurate manner- Provide administrative support, including filing, scheduling meetings, updating tracking logs and maintaining regulatory trial documents- Organize, prioritize and respond appropriately to incoming correspondence- Work effectively with research coordinators and manager to ensure effective and efficient study conduct- Perform other research tasks and provides research support as directed- Coordinate a national registry by liaising with research assistants at other participating sites in Canada

Consequence of Error/Judgement


The incumbent must be able to work independently and within a team and exercise considerable judgment on a daily basis.

Errors in the performance of the above-related duties could significantly impact research projects.

There are time-sensitive matters with deadlines that must be met in the office, and missing such deadlines could negatively affect faculty and opportunities being pursued, causing poor internal and external relations.

A high degree of accuracy, a thorough understanding of policies and practices, the ability to anticipate, investigate and resolve problems, and the ability to meet conflicting demands are expected.

Supervision Received

Work closely with the Principal Investigator.

This individual will be expected to work independently in accordance with established objectives and exercise initiative and judgment in performing all work-related functions.

Minimum Qualifications


High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, preferably a scientific or health-related field or Graduation from a technical college or institute.- Minimum 2 years of experience in a research environment preferred.- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) is required.- Excellent organizational, communication (oral and written English) and interpersonal skills- Must demonstrate sound judgment, critical thinking, logical decision making- Must possess strong problem-solving skills, able to anticipate and resolve problems in a timely, effective, ethical, professional, and constructive manner- Must show strong negotiation, conflict resolution and rapport-building skills.- Demonstrated ability to take the initiative and work in a team environment as well as independently with mínimal supervision- Ability to be flexible, multitask and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment- Ability to effectively work on multiple simultaneous projects and successfully prioritize to meet deadlines- Self-directed, highly self-motivated, assertive, enthusiastic and honest in the performance of all duties- Ability to work in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, and ICH/GCP guidelines Willingness to further professional knowledge through informal (e.g.

reading journals/books) and formal education (e.g. attending rounds, conferences, and training programs)- Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment. Ability to exercise tact and discretion.
