Construction Safety Officer (CSO)

SUMMARY:


To provide technical, administrative, and safety support to the Site Superintendent regarding employee safety conduct, work methods, regulation, training and project site safety.

The CSO assists in planning, organizing, and implementing various health and safety initiatives to support the organizational health and safety program, while performing various labour tasks that improve site safety.

This role will be at our site in Vancouver.


DUTIES:


  • Site inspections to ensure that workers have been provided with essential safety equipment and are using the equipment consistently.
  • Conduct project orientations to ensure that new workers to a site have been instructed on company safety standards, procedures, and responsibilities.
  • Participating in crew and Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings for the purpose of providing technical and field audit reports for discussion.
  • Provide support in developing custom site safety plans by conducting ongoing site hazard assessments (FLHA's).
  • Assist in the continuous development of the companies Health and Safety program.
  • Conduct incident and accident investigations and work as part of an investigation committee for serious accidents.
  • Proactive maintenance of site cleanliness through ongoing housekeeping duties each day.
  • Ensure all administrative aspects of site safety are addressed. This includes ensuring all documentation is stored appropriately and that the Site Superintendent and Project Manager are made aware of any deficiencies.
  • Ensure that all coordination activities are completed in a timely manner on site. This will include ensuring that appropriate safety controls are in place during nonroutine work hours (e.g. weekend work).
  • Spend downtime assisting Site Superintendent in labour or carpentry duties as required.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge and understanding of WorkSafe regulations a must, and BCCSA COR requirement knowledge an asset but can be trained.
  • Minimum Level 2 OFA, with CSO certification a requirement.
  • Equipment & machinery certifications an asset.
  • Strong organizational and people skills, ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability and confidence to instill core safety values internally and to trade contractors.
  • Ability to work efficiently with mínimal direction while leading by example

Report to:
Health and Safety Manager

Salary:
$24.15-$37.17 per hour
