    Reporting to the Manager of Inpatient Allied Health, the Wheelchair Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, service and repair of hospital-owned wheelchairs and similar equipment. The Wheelchair Technician will work in cooperation with other staff, management, outside contractors and others as required to ensure the timely and efficient completion of tasks.

    Qualifications:

    QUALIFICATIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Responsible for the cleaning of wheelchairs and cushions
    Several Years of Experience in General equipment maintenance in a facility of similar size and complexity - required
    Acts as liaison with inspectors and consultants.
    Assembles new equipment as required.
    Completes prescribed documentation such as logs, preventive and demand maintenance work orders, inspection checklists, etc.
    Delivers and picks up equipment from designated areas
    Ensures work area is kept neat, clean and organized
    Estimates material requirements, investigates material options and coordinates the procurement of same through the Manager
    Has familiarity with all pertinent legislation, codes and standards including but not limited to CSA standards, etc
    Inspects, tests, diagnoses, and services equipment found to be deficient
    Maintains adequate inventory of parts and materials required to provide timely service.
    Monitors the condition of the hospital's inventory of wheelchairs and ensures that a program of preventive and demand maintenance is followed.
    Provides advice and assistance to outside contractors and other facility personnel as required
    Reads drawings and specifications in order to facilitate repairs, estimate material requirements and costs, and prepare work schedules
    Trains/educates patients and caregivers in the proper use, care and safety features of equipment
    Utilizes and maintains tools inherent to the work of the trade, including but not limited to hand tools, drills, equipment lifts, battery testers, etc
    Has familiarity with all pertinent legislation, codes and standards including but not limited to CSA standards, etc
    Knowledge and experience with mobility equipment – required – mandatory testing.

    Education and/or Certification:

    High School Diploma – Required

    Post-Secondary Diploma - preferred
