Position Overview


The Technical Advisor is responsible for providing technical expertise and will work closely with the Operations and Sales team to support business strategy and growth.


Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Advise drilling fluids sales team, customers and potential customers on the technical issues that may affect operations, before, during and after ongoing operations. Understanding and providing hydraulics analysis for planned and ongoing operations.
  • Assisting operations and sales staff with issues on troubled wells, focusing on deeper more complex areas
  • Working directly with the Tech Advisor Supervisor, Technical Services, the Drilling Fluids Sales team and the Operations team along with Work as a liaison between the R&D group, drilling fluids lab and the operations team
  • Demonstrate effective communication with internal and external customers while having the capability to work independently if necessary
  • Collaborate with the laboratory and procurement teams to evaluate new products and technology, screening lab requests to minimize redundancy
  • Providing technical support to all sales staff and attending meetings as required.
  • Guiding sales through proper KPI and or project reviews for clients, as well as presenting data to the client.
  • Play a key role in system or product field trials, analyze results and recommend new or changed procedures or formulations
  • Help filter lab requests from operations, sales and procurement
  • Provide support for all marketing and technical material
  • Provide technical support to sales representatives with existing customer issues
  • May assist sales personnel in the preparation of bids / tenders and handle special projects, as assigned
  • Helping develop process and procedures to develop sales tools for the sales team.
  • Helping with technical programming and mentoring employees in the programming department.
  • Assisting in compiling technical data and papers for bids.
  • Assisting with mud schools both internal and external.
  • Being a liaison between the lab and sales groups regarding new systems and products.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 5 years Drilling Fluids industry experience is an asset
  • Good technical capability in drilling fluids
  • Ability to communicate ideas, work in a team, and utilize their expertise and technical knowledge to achieve results
  • Ability to travel to field locations as required
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to personal safety and that of coworkers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations and safe work practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Excellent computer skills
