Position Overview:


Reporting to the Data Lead, the Power BI Admin would conduct analysis of business and user needs to determine business and technology requirements and identify Business intelligence, Data Analytics, and Data Warehousing solutions to support business goals.

Job Description:


Major Job Functions:

  • Liaise with users and other stakeholders to implement and refine BI requirements
  • Elicit, develop, and document requirements and assist with testing/verification of the solution
  • Communicate deliverables and successes to business stakeholders, and train users
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple data sources, profile data, reconcile conflicts, decompose highlevel information into details, abstract up from lowlevel information to a general understanding, and help differentiate/prioritize adhoc user requests

Accountability:

  • Effectively brokers a shared understanding on business issues, and agreement on the best solution given the business unit's need and the company's strategic goals.
  • Ensures assigned analysis tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner to support the needs of the business, BP&S and Finning Canada.
  • Produces requirements documentation that is of excellent quality, which is easily understood by the reviewers, approvers, and users of the material.
  • Ensure compliance with Finning's changecontrol processes related to the systems development life cycle.
  • Represents the company in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Maintains effective relationships with internal departments and staff while maintaining company confidentiality.
  • Takes direction from project sponsors and departmental leaders.
  • Handles difference of opinion with the highest level of professionalism and decorum.
  • Understand and adhere to Finning policies and procedures, including safety.

Qualifications for the role:

  • Post-Secondary education in business and information systems.
  • Strong requirements gathering, decision making, project management, problem solving, and investigative skills.
  • Technical aptitude for understanding relational databases, dimensional modeling and data warehousing.
  • In depth knowledge of Business Analysis and data profiling tools and techniques and how they are effectively applied to specific business analysis and data needs.
  • Broad knowledge of business issues, processes, and strategic planning, as well as, IT resources and enabling technologies.
  • Broad knowledge of industry standards.
  • Knowledge of reporting technologies, applicable to the assigned platform(s).
  • Knowledge of data warehouse, data mart and database technologies, standards, and methodologies.
  • Understands and adheres to Finning policies and procedures, including safety.
  • Experience in statistical analysis and data mining preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is considered an asset

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to communicate in technical and business terms.
  • Strong team support skills that promote cooperation and collaboration
  • Sound understanding of database design practices and SQL query fundamentals.
  • Experience working with data/data profiling and deriving business solutions using data
  • Strong technical skills with the ability to create or guide the development of BI objects (dashboards, reports, cubes, metrics, etc.)
  • Provide training, support and guidance to end users in the use of BI tools and in the analysis/understanding of information
  • Solid analytic and problemsolving skills, detail oriented mind set and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Exhibit a high level of expertise and confidence in driving business decisions using a combination of data and business acumen
  • Ability to work with ambiguity
  • Strong work ethic and selfdriven
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
