    About the Position:

    Reporting to the Practice Manager, this role supports the veterinarians to the fullest extent, contributing to providing top-notch care to patients and enhancing efficiency in patient care delivery. Responsibilities include conducting examinations within the defined scope, carrying out laboratory tasks and treatments, managing drug dosages and dispensing, and assisting in surgeries. Additionally, this position involves direct communication with clients. When necessary, the RVT will also oversee the maintenance of instruments and equipment, medical record-keeping, administrative tasks, inventory, and other responsibilities to ensure smooth operations and high-quality care.

    As a Senior RVT, this position carries out the following duties with unparalleled proficiency. Moreover, this role may involve training, mentoring, and offering guidance to RVTs with less than 5 years of experience, RVT students, or veterinary students.

    Some specific duties:
    • Triage patient care and treatments, coordinate with other staff members, and prepare for upcoming procedures.
    • Assist in all tasks related to patient care such as administering medications and treatments.
    • Calculate drug doses, administer medications, and ensure proper control and recording of drugs.
    • Perform various treatments and laboratory work for diagnosis and treatment.
    • Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures using specialized equipment.
    • Handle patient hospitalization, including medication administration and vital signs monitoring.
    • Conduct sedation, anesthesia, patient monitoring, and recovery procedures.
    • Perform dental treatments, eye tests, and other medical procedures as instructed.
    • Manage weight-loss programs and assist with various tasks as required.
    • Engage in client communication and education on care and treatment.
    • Participate in housekeeping, administrative tasks, and equipment maintenance.
    Qualifications you need to have:
    • Completion of a veterinary technologist program accredited by the CVMA and registration with the BCVTA; or equivalent RVT designation recognition.
    • Minimum of five (5) years' experience as an RVT or equivalent, demonstrating proficiency in all areas of RVT practice.
    • Experience in providing high-quality customer service to diverse stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask efficiently.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Capable of meeting physical job demands, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and more.
    • Understanding of risks associated with working with animals and adherence to safety requirements.
    • Experience with veterinary practice software, preferably Cornerstone.
    • Alignment with BC SPCA policies, programs, and protocols.
