  • Job SummaryThe Academic and Technical Writing Program (ATWP) is an academic unit in the Faculty of Humanities. The program currently comprises a director, 30 program instructors (including Teaching Faculty, Continuing sessional instructors, and term sessional instructors), a research assistant, a work study student, and up to 10 Teaching Assistants in a given academic year. The program plans and delivers over 135 class sections to around 2500 students annually.


The ATWP serves the university community through its responsibility for the majority of course offerings that meet the University of Victoria's Academic Writing Requirement (AWR), the only university wide requirement that must be satisfied by all UVic undergraduate students before graduation.


The Program Administrator for the Academic and Technical Writing Program (ATWP) supports the administrative, financial and communications functions of the program.

This position reports directly to and works closely with the Director of ATWP to deal with immediate everyday administrative demands and to assist with the long-term planning and academic goals of the program in conjunction with the strategic goals of the faculty and university.

The Program Coordinator provides advice, direction and problem solving on matters related to interpretation of university policies and procedures.

  • Key responsibilities of the position include:
  • Assists with the annual faculty and sessional teaching course assignments and submission of the program academic timetables.
  • Administers the financial functions of the program, including budget analysis, forecasting, and monitoring of operating budgets.
  • Provides accurate advice and guidance regarding standard university, faculty, and program policies and procedures to students, faculty, instructors and to the Director.
  • Responsible for reviewing the content and maintenance of the program's website and social media.
  • Supports the human resource functions of the program, including the recruitment and onboarding of faculty, sessional instructors, and teaching assistants.
  • Supports the program Director and course coordinators with daytoday administrative functions of the program.
  • Assists with the planning of program expansion, course development and revision, curriculum changes, and program evaluation.
  • Assigns office space and coordinates all facilities management upgrades.

    Experience:


The position requires a minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in a similar position, preferably in a post-secondary or institutional environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities, manage multiple projects, and prioritize.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and systems
  • Ability to learn and use online systems (especially internaltotheuniversity systems such as FAST, Kuali, etc.)
