University Canada West is experiencing significant growth. We are seeking a passionate, learner-centered, full-time instructor to teach in the University Access Program (UAP).


About University Canada West
UCW is a business and technology-oriented, teaching intensive university which has the fastest growing MBA program in Canada.

Balanced with a BCOM degree, a BA in Business Communications, and an AA degree, UCW offers students a solid grounding in academic knowledge and skills, interactive, experiential education in business and digital literacy skills.


UAP instructors are responsible for interactive and engaging teaching, staying active in their field through professional development, and serving their Department and the UCW university community through committee and other administrative and assigned project work to support the program and instructors.

Responsibilities include teaching classes, working with colleagues to develop, modify, and review the curriculum, program, and resources, preparing and updating class materials, working with students to improve their knowledge and career readiness skills, assessing student progress through graded assignments, learning activities, papers, exams, and other work, and staying informed about changes and innovations in your field and technologies.


Specific Responsibilities

Instructors will:

  • Teach all courses, as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction, including on campus, online, hybrid, as needed by UCW's UAP department.
  • Be fully prepared with a syllabus and instructional plans for each class session in accord with the stated objectives of the course.
  • Enforce academic policies and procedures and comply with UCW rules and regulations.
  • Maintain posted office and oncampus hours to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the department, division, and university.
  • Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, committees, and other special appointments.
  • Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation and in the identification, development, preview, and acquisition of educational resources and supplies required to meet program objectives and improve instruction.
  • Maintain complete course and student records, reports, and forms.
  • Attend training and other professional development opportunities onoroffcampus and stay current with developments in the field of instruction.
  • Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the department chair or other UCW leadership in meeting the needs of the department and university.
  • Assume responsibility for classroom preparation, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with the assessment of English language proficiency as needed.

Minimum requirements:


  • A minimum of 5 years of experience teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP)/ESL to adults at the postsecondary level.
  • A master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or in a related field; OR Master's degree with a TESOL certification and Work Experience of a minimum of three years teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language to adults.


Applicants are requested to submit evidence of their Master's or doctoral degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or related field (e.g., Master's or doctoral degree in Education with specialization in TESOL or master's degree in Linguistics with specialization in TESOL); or Master's degree with a TESOL certification AND work experience of a minimum of 5 years teaching EAP to adults.


Before hiring is complete, verified copies of the degree transcript documents and TESOL certificates according to Languages Canada standards will be required.

If the instructor has received their degree outside of Canada, an assessment is required to ensure equivalency to a Canadian credential.

Ontario uses WES and CES; IQAS covers Saskatchewan, Alberta and the Yukon; British Columbia uses ICES; Manitoba's is WES and CEFAHQ ( Centre d'expertise sur les formations acquises hors du Quebec) does these for Quebec.

  • Effective EAP pedagogy based on recent research on SLA theory and methodology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary for effective teaching in a EAP learning environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills: organized, accurate, and punctual with paperwork and assigned tasks
