Supervisor, Youth Programs


Terms:

Location:
Tong Louie Family YMCA Ave Surrey, BC)

Regular travel is required across Lower Mainland, Surrey and Fraser Valley for meetings and events.

This position is currently working mainly onsite.


Hours: 35 hours per week


Schedule:
Program hours are Monday - Friday 10AM - 7PM, Saturday's 9AM - 3PM

The schedule will shift from time to time, including some weekends and evenings, based on program and operational needs.

Nature & Scope:

The Supervisor is responsible for leading diverse youth programming at YMCA BC Greater Vancouver Region. The programs are developed to invite youth to identify what empowers them. Some programs work closely with the schools while others work closely with the community. Some of the topics are life skills training, leadership skills, and abilities, mentorship, etc. The program delivery involves one-to-one meetings, workshops, projects, etc.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Recruitment, screening, and training of volunteer mentors, and recruitment of youth participants.
  • Coordinating matches between mentors and mentees based on skills, interests, and participants' needs.
  • Be a liaison with Tong Louie to make sure program space is available and accessible to program participants.
  • Organizing 810 group and capacitybuilding activities for mentors and mentees
  • Provide leadership and expertise to ensure the delivery of highquality programs and services that meet YMCA service expectations and the needs of program participants.
  • Develop program curriculum and relevant staff/volunteer training that supports current best practices for working with youth, in accordance with YMCA Standards, YMCA Child Protection policies, and YMCA Healthy Adolescent Development principles.
  • Provide direct leadership, training, coaching, and supervision to a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders including program participants, parents, YMCA staff, volunteers, partners, community agencies, and service providers.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Youth Programs to develop and expand programs into underserved communities through strategic partnerships.
  • Develop and implement plans to serve and engage the community through discussion, participation, and involvement in community groups, committees, and partnerships related to the needs of our communities.
  • Oversee development of marketing, promotions and outreach plan to recruit target numbers of participants.
  • Manage staff scheduling.
  • Participate in full cycle HR process with employees and volunteers as necessary, including recruitment, orientation, development, and discipline.
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards, policies, and procedures, and provide leadership in emergencies (ex. First aid, behavioural issues)
  • Will be required, as needed, to provide front line support and/or direct delivery of programs.
  • Provide leadership and support to the YMCA annual fundraising campaign.
  • Will be required, as needed, to provide front line support and/or direct delivery of programs.
  • Ensure the YMCA's reputation as charity of choice is understood and supported by the community.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum three years of experience working with diverse groups of youth.
  • Minimum one year's experience in a supervisory role
  • Degree or diploma in Child & Youth Care or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the program including some evenings and weekends.
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and nonvisible dimensions of diversity.
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport with participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Experience with volunteer oversite and recruitment
  • Excellent administration skills and experience tracking expenses
  • Microsoft Office skills including PowerPoint, Excel, Word etc.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED (may be completed within the first 30 days of employment)
  • Ability to travel across Surrey, Lower Mainland, and Fraser Valley for program meetings and needs.
