Home Visitor - Family Resilience Team

Full Time (35 hours per week) 18-Month Contract


The Families Matter Society of Calgary strives to promote optimal child development and family resilience by helping caregivers learn about early childhood development, by providing concrete supports in times of need; by helping families build strong relationships, and by creating lasting, supportive social networks among families.


We are looking for a passionate and committed professional to join our organization as a Home Visitor with our Home Visitation Program, serving Northeast Calgary.


JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to provide home-based support to families with children newborn to age six in order to promote healthy child development; caregiver capacity-building; family resilience; and community connections.


QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree or diploma in the Human Services field is required with a minimum of 2 years of service to families with young children, including work experience in the following areas:

  • Providing support to families with complex needs.
  • Addressing and reducing risk factors and building family protective factors.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development and building parenting capacity.
  • Experience providing inhome visitation support to families is an asset.
  • Knowledge and competence re: serving diverse families.
  • Utilizing a client data base and tracking assessment and outcome data for families served.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work in a very organized, accurate and detailoriented way.
  • Selfdirected, and able to take initiative.
  • Experience with child protective services.
  • Strong knowledge of child and family serving community resources.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and use of own vehicle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Serve families in the Northeast of Calgary, as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain a supportive and mentoring relationship with complex families by providing regular services through home visits.
  • Use skills to address identified family concerns and implements effective interventions with families, utilizing advanced strengthbased, solution focused strategies.
  • Act as a liaison between families and other community agencies and promote family resilience and selfsufficiency.
  • Establish and implement a family support plan with selfassessments, goals, strategies, and activities developed with parents.
  • Utilize developmental screening tools (ASQ / ASQ-SE) with children and make recommendations to parents to support optimal child development.
  • Assist parents with referrals to community services and resources as required.
  • Maintain best practice, a high quality of service, and ensure that your work is fully compliant with provincial home visitation standards.
  • Ensure complete and accurate data entry into the agency's client database.
  • Work collaboratively with Calgary Region Children's Services and key community stakeholders.
