The Carlington Youth program aims to provide vulnerable youth in the community with opportunities to engage in activities and positive experiences that promote self-development, community engagement, as well as academic achievement.

Youth Outreach Worker (YOW) works as a part of the Children and Youth team to maintain and expand services of the Students Will All Graduate (SWAG) and Youth Programs in general.

YOW is responsible for providing one-on-one support to high-risk youth ages 12 to 18 to connect them with the existing academic and emotional support, case management, crisis intervention, as well as group-based activities to promote social recreation, facilitate academics support, and life skills development.

The YOW will reach out to families and liaise with school staff, and community partners to identify and address the needed support.

Program-Related Activities

  • Plans, develops, and delivers all aspects of the Students Will All Graduate ( SWAG) program by providing one on one support to youth as well as group facilitation that enhances youth welfare and development, and academic success.
  • Ensures compliance of SWAG activities with program objectives through a balance of academic support, social and recreational activities, mentoring, healthy food choices and nutrition, and life skill development.
  • Performs intake assessment, supportive listening, case management and some crisis intervention functions.
  • Acts as a liaison with school staff, students, and parents by helping to identify needs of each group and link individuals and groups to resources such as specific academic, social and emotional supports; and to identify gaps and needed supports and approaches to delivering those supports.
  • Plans and delivers special youth event such as workshops, outings, communitybased events, and others as needs are identified.
  • Provides support and planning for youth activities in the community at large
  • Support the smooth running of overall youth team programs and provide support and coverage when needed.
