The Role:

The Bookkeeper works on-site and contributes to the mission of Community Support Connections by providing support to the Finance and Administration Team.

This includes accounts payables, payroll and month end activities.


The Bookkeeper typically works collaboratively with the Financial Controller and Accounts Receivable and thrives in a face-paced, dynamic, hands-on environment.

Summary of Primary Responsibilities

  • Accounts payable completes all activities related to processing accounts payable, including entering vendor invoices, processing payments via cheque, EFT or online payments
  • Visa Reconciliations
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Processes employee and volunteer expense reports
  • Prepares and applies for HST rebates
  • Payroll performs all activities related to payroll processing, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time in compliance with relevant legislation and agency policies
  • Prepares remittances such as WSIB, RRSPs, CRA, EHT per the legislated schedule
  • Ensures staff terminations are processed in the payroll software in a timely manner and prepares and submits a Record of Employment (ROE) to Service Canada
  • Prepares and distributes T4's on an annual basis, as approved by the Director of Finance and Administration
  • Responds to inquiries from staff regarding payroll, vacation, sick time, lieu banks, payroll deductions and tax deductions
  • Assists in monthend closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments and monthly reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts
  • Assists in the development of a costing system for the frozen food line
  • Assists in the annual audit
  • Provides back up for accounts receivable/billing

Education & Experience

  • Postsecondary degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum 2 years' experience
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel and comfortable using Word
  • Detail oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the nonprofit/charitable sector is an asset
  • Experience working with NetSuite an asset
  • Excellent communication skills

Working Hours & Environment

  • Willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Extensive computer and telephone use
  • Occasional working from home office
