LCS is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director, LCS Summer Academy and Ancillary Programs**Founded in 1879, Lakefield College School (LCS) is a leader among Canada's independent boarding and day schools and prides itself on its reputation for providing a strong, caring community, a well-rounded program, and a transformational student experience.

With 145 years of outdoor education experience, LCS Summer Academy provides fun and challenging programs for campers ages 4 to 18.

Each program is full of opportunities to learn in and through the outdoors on our 315-acre waterfront campus.

Position Summary


The role of Assistant Director, LCS Summer Camp & Ancillary Programs will begin their contract on or about
MAY 15, 2024 in order to provide support in program preparation and planning for a successful summer season.


Position Responsibilities:

Summer/Program Preparation**- Program Development - Review, develop, and update activity lesson plans and curriculum created by Counselors & Camp Coordinators.

Propose (and develop if approved) new programming opportunities. Work with the Director in advance of and during the summer to ensure the program outlined meets expectations

  • Staff
  • Recruitment and Onboarding. Assist the Director with interviewing and appointment of camp staff. Assist with organization and oversight of staff training and certification courses.
  • 3rd Party Bookings Liaise with 3rd Party Camp Directors for presummer meetings, tours, and support


  • Program Equipment

  • Create summer equipment inventories & wish lists for purchasing

Summer/Program Responsibilities

  • 3rd Party Programs and Facility Rentals Supports with coordination of 3rd Party Programs (ontheground hosting and facility preparation)
  • Manage the House Life Coordinators, Head of Waterfront, & Camp Program Specialists
  • Camp Programming & Curriculum
  • Create a calendar of special events for July and August and oversee the implementation of special events (e.g., Theme Days, Regatta Days, Community Events, Alumni Family Camp, etc.). Plan and oversee delivery with core staff. Work with Camp Program Specialists and Head of Waterfront to develop activity programming. Coordinate ORCKA and other certifications before the end of each program. Enter swim, ORCKA, trips, and other camper data at the end of summer.


  • Program Safety

  • Support with the 24hour emergency oncall in addition to the Director and Associate Director. Help organize and oversee emergency procedures. Monitor and assess camper safety at all program areas


  • Other

  • Assist with the arrival/departure of students/campers. Attend and participate in all director and senior staff meetings.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Experience working in summer camps and/or overnight settings (e.g., summer camps, boarding school, etc.)
  • Completed undergraduate degree or Diploma
  • Current Certification for Standard First Aid & CPR C
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Ability to work with and instruct teenagers
  • Personal qualities: campercentred, collaborative, caring, enthusiastic, solutionoriented, strong interpersonal skills, strong organizational and communication skills
  • Full "G" class license, over the age of 25, and ability to drive a large van

Additional Qualifications or Experience that would be considered an asset:

  • Bronze Cross or NLS
  • Ontario Pleasure Craft Operator's License
  • Second language proficiency and ESL experience
