Academic Associate Position - Public Media Lead


Position Summary:

The successful applicant will:
- be an excellent communicator and writer, capable of distilling complex ideas into simple, accessible language for a range of stakeholders.
- have both management and research management experience and be familiar with a project management toolset.
- be a trusted figure in the industry with no conflicts of interest

  • Be able to communicate effectively in French
  • Have previous academic lab management experience

Specific duties:

  • Develop empirical research on the current state of journalism in Canada and its future, which may include recommendations for policymakers, media stakeholders and academics
  • Report on research findings and convene stakeholders to both inform and grow the research outputs
  • Leverage industry stakeholders to create internal/external working groups and lead discussion on areas of interest
  • Identify, execute and coordinate the project parameters, including timelines, oversight of freelance staff (if applicable), and agreedupon deliverables
  • Work with Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy staff to develop media/marketing plans and maximize outreach
Contract Details

  • This position is a fulltime contract position (40hr/week) for one (1) year, with possibility of renewal.
Salary

  • The salary will be commensurate with experience and education level.
Education/Experience

  • PhD (inprogress or completed preferred) or; Master's degree in Communication Studies, Media Studies, Journalism Studies, Public Policy, Sociology or cognate field.
  • Infield experience in Canadian journalist organizations
  • Knowledge of Canadian media climate and policy debate

Experience:

Minimum of five years' experience leading and implementing research on the journalism landscape in Canada and/or direct journalist experience.
