Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.


Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and motivated individual to join our Information Services Infrastructure team in Edmonton.

Reporting to the Network Manager, the Network Specialist is responsible for the performance of Capital Power's network infrastructure.

This involves participating in and ensuring daily operational tasks are completed; including such items as:
monitoring network health, incident and change management, backup validation, network health monitoring, patching, security reviews, etc.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Supporting sophisticated and diverse set of network hardware and services for multiple business areas.
  • Ensuring team provides highly adaptable and customer-focused support services for all Capital Power business units, including second tier support for the Service Desk.
  • Supervising performance and ensuring high availability and performance levels are achieved to support a high customer experience.-
  • Providing support services that meets outlined "Service Level Agreements" in this highly sophisticated "network" environment.
  • Providing support services for both operations and capital project initiatives.
  • Understanding and following IT processes and practices, including General Computing Controls (GCC's) to support CSOX requirements.
  • Providing technical advice to direct manager, senior manager, and peers in support of business and strategic goals relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Providing input into decisions within the network team and ensuring standard methodology is followed by vendors in relation to network managed services (if required).
  • Leading and participating in the resolution of technical problems.-
  • Serving/acting as an internal technical resource related to the network infrastructure and supporting services, technologies and solutions implemented.
  • With the complex set of supporting network services, providing an overarching solution instead of problem resolution.

What you will bring to the role:

Education:


  • Completed Diploma or Degree in Computing Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • CompTIA Network+ and Security+ would be an asset.
  • Cisco CCNP and CCNA would be an asset.

Experience:

  • 3+ years' experience in Palo Alto NGFW or equivalent would be an asset. 3+ years' experience with design, support, maintenance, and integration of largescale IT infrastructure systems, with a specialization in networking. 3+ years in system support, maintenance, and support role.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, organized, customer focused, and effective communicator.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Problem solving, results driven and action-oriented when working on assigned tasks.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very mínimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
