JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the General Manager of Thistle Printing.

The Plant Manager oversees and accepts the responsibility for the day-to-day operations in running a successful efficient and productive plant.

Provides effective leadership, guidance, motivation, maintaining open communication creative thinking and positive work environment for all 3 teams (Pre-press, Press, Bindery/Shipping & Receiving).


Administer and co-ordinate in accordance with established operating procedures all activities involved in Prepress, Scheduling and Production (Presses, Bindery and Material Handling).

Production Cost Control (Efficiency, Waste, Quality). Work process & Discipline uniformity on all production shifts (Day, Evening). Managing unionized production staff.


Work with the General Manager to formulate and recommend improvements to the systems and procedures we use to develop our products to reduce workload, schedules, and costs.


ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Supervise the daytoday operation of the 3 teams to ensure that we produce orders based on customer specifications and expectations.
  • Develop and maintain an efficient communication system to allow the supervision team to be informed with all relevant information
  • Motivate employees and other supervisors so they can reach their short
- and long-term objectives - re-center if they go off track

  • SME for Operations, create purchase orders and request calculations, understanding costs, support order entry and scheduling
  • Plan, develop and stimulate process improvements best practice for products and equipment
  • Maintain continuous improvement in equipment efficiencies, product quality, paper waste, and cost reduction in processes and resourcing in a unionized environment.
  • Participate in development and implementation of quality program for overall quality improvement.
  • Perform personnel administrative tasks, including coordinating and participating in hiring and promotion process, supervising and training of new employees, resolving exceptional employee issues
  • Meeting gross margin financial objectives through constant review of measurement reports; i.e. improvement processes, resourcing, equipment upgrades, job costing, etc...
  • Proactive in monitoring and implementing changes that will effect positively our gross margin
  • Plan for training in both sectors for absences, vacation etc. Give training and coach employees so that they can be the most efficient and autonomous as possible
  • Maintain constant daily communication with employees to observe, deflate any issues or deviation within the group, maintaining a good team spirit
  • Assure that all employees respect polices and procedures to meet health and safety goals for the plant
  • Manage employee attendance in ADP payroll system
  • Enforces all company policies and procedures including, Environment, Health & Safety and Security procedures.
  • Recommend selection, termination, promotion, transfer, classifications and changes in compensation of those employees under their direction.
  • Reviews and evaluates the performance of subordinates in relation to establish requirements for production, quality, safety, costs and communications.
  • Develops, trains and improves direct reports by assisting them, supplying proper tools and materials for the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.
  • Attends Environment, Health & Safety committee meeting.
Supports and ensures that this program is administered, understood and enacted upon the Thistle printing facility. Ensure good housekeeping is maintained in areas under his responsibility.

  • Assists and advises General Manager in establishing departmental budgets. Maintain the most effective utilization of plant personnel and equipment through the review of data on productivity, quality, costs and delivery performance. Investigates deviations from established objectives or standards and initiates corrective actions.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical or Community College Diploma in Print Production, Administration or a similar program
  • More than 10 years of experience in a similar role and setting
  • Knowledge of D365 and Microsoft Office
  • Good communication skills
  • Great management skills
  • Sense of judgement, self starter, organizational skills
  • Able to multitask and work with all levels of management
