About the role:

Collaborating with plan sponsors, members, consultants and advisors, Sun Life Group Benefits today provides complete benefit coverage to over 5 million Canadians through our more than 11,000 group benefit plans across the country.


The SunSolutions Managing Account Executive is responsible for client retention and the profitable management of a portfolio of Group Benefits Clients in the Calgary sales office.

These Clients range in size and complexity and are aligned with the advisor community.

This role will be accountable for relationship management, and turning advisor and Client needs into opportunities to provide solutions that help our advisors and Clients achieve their business, employment, and financial goals.

What will you do?

  • Foster and maintain excellent client and advisor relationships
  • Grow the portfolio on a profitable basis and provide overall client support for the organization
  • Understand the client's changing needs, provide benefits advice, and keep customers informed of changes that impact benefit plans and Sun Life Financial value proposition, products and services
  • Provide sound financial management and facilitate the addition of products and services to existing clients that aligns with their goals and needs
  • Analyze, present, and negotiate annual renewal actions
  • Proactively manage projects, host and present to clients on a regular and frequent basis to establish strong relationships
  • Provide resolution to issues presented by internal stake holders, clients, and advisors with respect to the block of business being managed

What do you need to succeed?

  • 510 years experience in Group Benefits, ideally in a similar role
  • Ability to manage a flexible work schedule
  • Indepth knowledge of the group benefits industry including concepts, both generic and particular to Sun Life Financial
  • Advanced knowledge of group insurance financial management and technical arrangements of plan funding and design (insured, refund, ASO, pooling)
  • Strong client relationship management skills and principles, active listening, pro active inquiry, and anticipation of broader needs
  • Understanding of underwriting processes and profit drivers for group benefits
  • Knowledge of benefit management processes, systems, guidelines, capabilities, standards, and practices
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Clear communication skills both internally and externally
  • Ability to work in partnership with their client team including Service Representatives and other internal stakeholders to collaborate and deliver the best solutions to meet client needs
  • Excellent negotiating skills for customer and advisor base
  • Highly motivated selfstarter with good overall business knowledge
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Superior organizational skills for managing diverse client portfolio
  • Ongoing involvement in professional development and group industry events
  • Teamplayer with strong leadership skills

Preferred Skills:


  • Completed Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) is considered an asset

Unique requirements:


  • Must have valid drivers' license and be willing to travel daily when required
  • Position located in Calgary
