Since 2010, Matthew House Ottawa has housed hundreds of refugee claimants and provided quality furniture to more than 17,000 people through our furniture bank program.
We have done this with a large, dedicated team of volunteers and a handful of employees, with a lot of passion and commitment.
About this role
The Truck/Warehouse Assistant will provide support for the day-to-day operations at Furniture Bank.
Under the direction of the Warehouse Manager, the Truck/Warehouse Assistant will be part of a team picking up and delivering donated furniture to individuals and families benefitting from our Furniture Bank.
Other responsibilities may include helping to ensure warehouse operation efficiency, safety, and cleanliness; receiving and documenting incoming donations, coordinating inventory and storage, loading and offloading trucks.
All aspects of the Truck/Warehouse Assistant role require the ability to maintain a respectful and professional manner with all staff, volunteers, donors, and clients of Furniture Bank.
You would be asked to:
- Accompany driver and work collaboratively with truck crew members on multiple pickups and deliveries each day during multiple pickups and deliveries
- Assist driver in determining acceptable condition of donated furniture before loading
- Move furniture into and out of homes, effectively and efficiently, following Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Load and unload delivery truck following Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Assist driver in collecting fees and payments for pickups
- Assist driver, as required, when backing up truck or parking
- May include driving cube truck as required
- Load and offload all trucks at the warehouse
- Store furniture safely and efficiently in the warehouse following established guidelines
- Maintain clean and safe warehouse
- Attend to other tasks as per the instructions of Warehouse Manager
- Must be able to lift heavy furniture and work with other truck personal
- Treat every person you interactive with kindness, dignity, and respect
- Respect Matthew House Ottawa's mission, vision, and values statements
Communication skills
- Effective communication skills
- Good command on English language, written & Verbal
- Fluency in other languages is highly preferred (especially French/Arabic).
Warehouse Experience:
- Experience in a warehouse and/or as a mover
- Experience working with marginalized people
Other skills
- Fast learner
- Work under minimum supervision
- Time management
- Working under fast paced environment
- Full G license, and be willing to be trained as a backup driver

Part-time
Salary:
From $18.60 per hour
Flexible Language Requirement:
- French not required

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- No weekends
